The client is a federal agency that operates an extensive integrated healthcare network serving over nine million enrollees annually through 1,255 healthcare facilities. The healthcare portal provided by this agency offers a range of tools and resources to assist users in collaborating with their healthcare team and making informed healthcare decisions.
The healthcare portal that the customer requested was intended for veterans to access and manage their medical records, order and track prescriptions, and record and track their daily vital signs. In addition, the portal was designed to allow secure communication between patient and their healthcare providers. The customer also requested that the portal be integrated with healthcare provider systems to synchronize and update the patient’s health data.
The solution for this project involved various technologies, including Liferay Content Portal, Java Full Stack, Hibernate, Spring Framework, Node JS, Ajax, REST API Services, HL7, and FHIR. Liferay Themes were generated using Node.js plugins for the Portal frontend. Some of the data was provided through API Services, which used the Hibernate framework with Java to connect to relational databases. For other modules, FHIR libraries were utilized to retrieve data from Mongo DB in the JSON object format. The solution also included HL7-based integrations to obtain data from other third-party healthcare provider systems.
